What Is Gymnastics?

Gymnastics is a sport that blends strength, flexibility, and artistry. Men’s Artistic Gymnastics involves performing routines on six apparatus: Floor Exercise, Pommel Horse, Rings, Vault, Parallel Bars, and Horizontal Bar. Women’s Artistic Gymnastics features routines on four apparatus: Vault, Uneven Bars, Balance Beam, and Floor Exercise.   

  

As in all Special Olympics sports, athletes are grouped into competition divisions according to ability level, age and gender when appropriate. In gymnastics, athletes also compete in specific levels.

 

Athletes in Illinois who received a gold medal in Artistic Gymnastics at their Region Qualifying event. advanced to state championships at the Summer Games.

Competition: 11:30am

 

Saturday Competition: Estimated Schedule 

Warm Up: 8:00 – 8:45am

Competition: 9:00am

Awards: 1:00pm
