Region A - Basketball Skills
Region A Basketball Skills Competition will advance gold medal winners to State Basketball Tournament in Bloomington Normal.
What Is Basketball Individual Skills?
One of the most popular sports in Illinois, basketball provides competition for both teams and individuals. Five-on-five team competition is available in Junior, High School and Senior Male (Coed) and Senior Female age groups. Individuals can compete in the Basketball Individual Skills Competition to develop basic basketball skills. Events include the Target Pass, 10 Meter Dribble and Spot Shot events.
Athletes in Illinois who participate in team competition, compete locally at a Region Qualifying event. Individual Skills participants also compete locally in Region Qualifying events. Teams or individuals who win a gold medal are eligible to advance to the State Basketball Championships held in Normal in March.

Event Details
Basketball Skills will take place at Dixon High School. There is parking in front of the gym or behind the school with an accessible ramp entrance.
Volunteer Information
All volunteers must sign up by clicking this link: https://portals.specialolympics.org/Volunteers will receive a t-shirt. Volunteer duties include station work, escorting athletes and assisting with the awards ceremony. Volunteers do not need to have basketball specific knowledge to attend this event. Training will be provided prior to the start. Please note that the end time may vary based on how quickly we get through the schedule. The competition will not end until all athletes have competed and been awarded. We hope to see you there! Volunteer questions can be directed to Katie Risley at krisley@soill.org
