What Is Soccer?
Soccer Facts
Soccer (football) is the world’s most popular sport. Athletes have the opportunity to compete on teams of 7 including a goalie, as well as in Individual Skills Competition which develops basic soccer skills.
As in all Special Olympics sports, athletes are grouped into competition divisions according to ability level, age and gender when appropriate.
Athletes in Illinois who participate in Soccer compete locally in Region Qualifying events. They are then eligible to advance to state championships at the Summer games held in Normal in June.

Competition will be held at Belvidere North High School. Parking is available at the High School.
Equipment
Athletes need to have the necessary equipment listed in the Rule Interpretations.

Volunteer Details:
All volunteers will receive a t-shirt and a lunch. Volunteer duties include scorekeeping, timing, assisting with ball retrieval, awards ceremony and handing out lunch. Volunteers do not need to have Soccer specific knowledge to attend this event. Volunteers will be trained prior to competition. Please note that the end time may vary based on how quickly we get through the schedule. The competition will not end until all athletes have competed and been awarded. We hope to see you there!
